#1007 [flytekit-java] sbt plugin Issue created by kanterov Why would this plugin be helpful to the Flyte community sbt is a very popular build tool for Scala. It has a plugin system that allows adding plugins by specifying their artifact name. Plugins can customize the build process, and create additional build tasks. There is "sbt launcher" script that can be put next to user-code, and will create local sbt installation. It makes it very easy to get started with sbt. What we want out of the sbt plugin: • sbt tasks to create service loader files, because Java annotation processors don't work in Scala • sbt tasks to run workflows in local mode • sbt tasks for workflow and task registration and execution • sbt tasks to work with Flyte sandbox (can be done as separate context) • integration of workflows graphs checks into the build process (e.g. fail if types don't match) The existing way of doing so requires using Docker container, primarily as a way to deliver jar files to users. We don't need it for sbt because it has a built-in artifact resolver (ivy or coursier). Ideally, to get started it should be sufficient to add sbt plugin (1 line of code). flyteorg/flyte
